Coronavirus Home Cleaning Tips and Looking After Yourself

Coronavirus – this is the word that EVERYONE around the world is talking about! Whilst most of us are now staying home and distancing ourselves, I thought that now would be a good time to share some home cleaning tips and ways that you can actually look after yourself – and your health!

Wash (And Look After) Your Hands

As a lot of you know, I’m a bit of a clean freak so I wash my hands – a lot!

After looking through social media posts and browsing through different articles, I’ve seen a lot of people saying that they’re suffering with their hands – now being dry, irritated and sore.

Don’t worry! There’s lots of things out on the market so make sure you keep washing your hands, whilst looking after them, and take a look at these tips below…!

Hand Cream or Body Cream – (And Alternatives)

Of course, the first thing I’ll recommend is hand cream!

If you can, use a hand cream which contains Shea Butter or is enriched with minerals as this will nourish, soothe and hydrate.

Run out or can’t find any hand cream? You can use a body cream or body lotion instead – it’ll work just as well.

Here are some of my recommendations before moving onto the natural alternatives.

– £4

– £23

– £24

So, if you’re looking for natural alternatives, the main thing which I would recommend is a good quality oil.

  • Coconut Oil is highly nourishing and will help to soften, soothe and hydrate your skin.
  • Olive Oil will also work wonders however, one thing to note is that it doesn’t smell as nice as coconut oil.

Both options are highly nourishing and great natural alternatives but your skin won’t absorb the oil quickly. Use these alternatives when you have time to spare or use this as a night-time pamper treatment.

You’ll notice a difference overnight!

Daily Showers – Coronavirus Tips

I don’t know why I haven’t seen this being advised more!?

Just like you wash your hands, you need to shower dailyespecially if you leave your home to grab the essentials from the shops.

Make it a part of your routine and turn it into a relaxing time for yourself. Have a hot shower (or bath) daily and not only will this clean, this will help you to unwind, relax and de-stress!

Long hair? Make sure you cleanse thoroughly – you can never be clean enough!

Bath Salts

  • Use them to help nourish, moisturise and soothe your skin.
  • Helping to soothe aches and pains.
  • Can help to remove toxins from the body.

Leave Shoes At The Door – Coronavirus Tips

I don’t understand people who wear shoes in their home – why are you doing that?

Always Leave Shoes At The Door

Pop them in a shoe cupboard or leave them in the hallways but DON’T walk around the home wearing your shoes.

We leave our homes wearing our shoes and we go to different buildings, offices, stores, restaurants and even toilets. Can you imagine the dirt and bacteria on our shoes?

Just because we can’t see it, it doesn’t mean it’s not there and in times like these – please leave shoes at the door and this will help to keep your home clean.

P.S – Leave coats and bags near the door or in a cupboard near the door too!

In times like these, we can never be too clean!

As mentioned above, I’m a clean freak so I’m constantly cleaning and I recommend thoroughly cleaning your home at least once a day!

What do I mean by thoroughly? I mean the typical hoovering and clean wiping everything in your home.

Hard surfaces, doors and door handles, hallway, kitchen and bathrooms are cleaned multiple times throughout the day.

Hard Surfaces – Cleaning Tips

Hard surfaces are worktops, cupboards, tables and things we touch often around the home.

Wipe these with a bleach-based, alcohol-based or anti bacterial cleaning product. I tend to use a variety of anti-bacterial sprays and in empty bottles, I add some bleach and dilute it with water.

Wonder products for your home! You can use natural ingredients such as lemon juice, and lime juice which are both natural disinfectants, antibacterial and antiseptic.

  • Spray hard surfaces around the home and wipe with a clean (good quality) microfibre cloth.
  • Make sure you thoroughly clean cupboard handles and cupboard doors. I use bleach-based and anti-bacterial products for this.

Steaming The Home – Coronavirus Cleaning Tips

Steamers work wonders all-year-round but they’re perfect for times like this!

The high heat from the steamer will help to kill bacteria in your home whilst helping to refresh and clean things which you normally can’t clean with spray.

  • Prior to using, add a few drops of lemon, tea tree or lavender essential oil to your steamer and with the added antibacterial properties, this will help to make your home smell lovely too.
  • Use the steamer on fabric sofas, bedding, curtains, fabric chairs, carpets and rugs – helping to clean and kill bacteria.
  • Steam your clothes too! This will refresh and help to kill any germs / bacteria!

It’s the little things which make a big difference and if we all take a few minutes per day to thoroughly cleanse our home and look after ourselves, we can definitely help with the situation.

There’s no harm in being clean and even though a few people will probably say parts of this article is over the top – you can never be too clean! 🙂
