A new interior post is online and this time, we're sharing tips on how to create a new-old home - adding unique pieces over time and helping you to develop a unique, cosy home.

The New-Old Interior Decor Trend

Space is at a premium as new houses pop up all over the country.

If this were an investment post, it would say purchase a plot sharpish and wait for the contractors to come calling.

However, it's not an investment post - in this article, what we're going t be focusing on is transforming modern homes into old-school properties thanks to a new vintage interior trend called 'new-old' interior decor.

We're not talking ancient decor - no!

As nice as new homes are, they just lack in character when you compare them to older homes. In this post, we're sharing a few tips on how to transform your space - in time to develop your own unique style with a vintage twist.

Start With a Long-Term Plan

The idea that, in the short-term, you should think about the future is a little contradictory.

However, Rome wasn’t built in a day, and, although you’re not in Rome, the motto holds true for homeowners!

To create a stylish, exciting home in a matter of days isn't one of the easiest things to do as most people will run into problems trying to get everything together quickly.

Rather than go overboard all in one go, you should add the must-have elements to your home and include accessories over time.

This way, your home will develop it's own character - you can shop for different items, always looking out for unique pieces and over time you'll get the sense of the new-old vintage decor.

Rely On Wood

As soon as you think of a retro home, what springs to mind?

Hopefully - it’s wood because this natural material is everywhere (and we love it) from the walls of the interior to the fence of the exterior.

Remember when you dreamt of having a white-picket number in the past?

On the inside of your home, there's plenty of ways to include wood due to the fact it's everywhere - especially in the UK.

One thing you might not know is that wooden walls are all the rage at the moment - when done right.

This is due to the fact that they instantly create a warm / cosy feeling atmosphere and when teamed with the correct ambient lighting, it looks beautiful.

If you're not looking for big changes, the easiest way to add more wood to your home is either with statement pieces or changing your interior doors by removing the traditional white gloss.

UK Oak Doors has a range of examples if you need inspiration. Of course, don’t forget about flooring either. 😉

Reclaim It

Sometimes, it's better to reclaim and revamp your furniture for that lovely new-old vintage look. This way, you're saving your budget for more improvements around the home and you create beautiful items which are unique to you, your style and your home.

Many people are design-savvy so have a little look on the internet if you need advice (or inspiration) - there's plenty of youtube tutorial online too and it'll help you get creative.

There's no better way to add personality to your home - whether it's a coffee table, a rocking chair, a set of drawers or something as simple as a wall frame.

Be Casual

Probably the biggest draw of a vintage home is the lack of formality. From the furniture to the colour scheme, it shouldn’t feel tense or uncomfortable. One way is to use earthly tones instead of bold, vivid shades blended with creams and white to balance the elements and allow everything to come together perfectly.

So, there we have a few tips on how to create the new-old vintage decor in your home, it's time to get creative so we'd love to know what you think! 🙂
