Making A Small Living Room Look Bigger
Making A Small Living Room Look Bigger
The Sprinkles of Style team is back with a NEW interior post - all about how to make a small living room look bigger, on a budget.
If you don't live in a house that's blessed with a huge amount of space, there are certain things which you can do to make the most of the space you have.
In this post, we're focusing on one of the most important rooms in the house - the living room.
Giving you a few tips and tricks that you can try out so you can really maximise what you have to create a space that's both enjoyable and inviting.
Choose The Right Furniture
When you have a limited amount of space, you also have to be very selective when it comes to the furniture you choose.
Aim for pieces that look great and are highly practical - such as the collection from Ercol. Ideally, you'll want a lovely sofa and armchair which are both raised off the floor to create the illusion of light and space.
If you can, choose multifunctional pieces like an ottoman which doubles up as seating and a coffee table - you're onto a winner with pieces like this.
Curtain / Drape Issues
First of all, in small spaces - you want to make sure that as much natural light comes into the room.
During the day, keep curtains open and opt for light colours and materials. If you want to add a luxurious touch - try styling two different curtains together by layering a lighter curtain in the centre with two darker curtains on either side which will add a touch of luxury to the room.
Make sure they're floor-length curtains too as this will give the illusion of a bigger room.
Declutter The Area
There's nothing that makes a space look smaller than clutter all over the place - a general rule is, if you haven't used something in the past year - it's unlikely that you'll use it in the future.
By decluttering the space, you'll also allow a new and refreshed energy into your home.
Minimal Design
When it comes to decorating and choosing a colour scheme- opt for bright, neutral colours which will make a small room appear larger.
Again, when buying rugs - choose minimal designs or block colours which will all compliment one another.
Reflect Space
One of the best ways to create the illusion of additional space in a room is to hang some mirrors which will make the space look a lot bigger than it actually is.
You can make things look 'prettier' by placing fairy lights (in warm white) opposite a mirror so when reflected - the ambient lighting will set a lovely atmosphere in the room too.
By using these tips and tricks, you can really transform a small living room and really start noticing some big differences.
This is the best time to make changes and just think - you'll be done before Christmas if friends and family come to visit.
