Home Extension Mistakes You Should Avoid

Home Extension Mistakes You Should Avoid
Written By: The Sprinkles of Style Team
If you’re running out of space in your home it makes sense to consider a home extension. It’s a big project to take on however it could be exactly what you need right now to fix the problems you’re currently experiencing in your home.
If you do take on such a project then you need to be aware of the mistakes that people so often make when it comes to home extensions. There's plenty of things that can go wrong if you're not careful so, read on to find out about them.
Starting Work Before You Have Permission
Planning permission is essential and your building work should never get started before you have it.
If you do start and your application for planning permission is turned down - you could then be ordered to have the extension demolished.
Clearly, that’s not something you want to go through, so don’t push ahead until you’ve had the green light from all the relevant authorities.
Not Having The Correct Help
You need to hire experienced professionals if you want your project to all go according to plan.
You can choose a company like Wessex modern conservatories if you want to buy from a company with experience in conservatory extensions.
However, if you want to build a multi-storey extension then be sure to seek out a company that has plenty of experience in that particular field. The right help will be the most vital thing of all.

Spending More Than Your Really Need To
Spending can really get out of hand - if you let it.
On the one hand, you need to avoid the mistake of under budgeting because that’s something which often happens too.
However on the other hand, you don’t want to hand over a blank cheque because that’s when things start to get really expensive so make sure that you get the basics right first and then worry about the additional things later on.
Not Considering Your Neighbours
Your neighbours can easily cause trouble if you aggravate them with your plans to build an extension on your home.
If you fail to consider the impact your building work will have on them, they’ll do everything in their powers to get the work halted.
To avoid any situations like this, it's better to talk to them about it, discussing your ideas and work together to ensure the building work doesn’t get disruptive for anyone.
Failing To Set Clear Deadlines
Deadlines are important, not only for yourself but also when you’re working with contractors.
Everyone should be on the same page and in agreement on the timescale of the project. Just make sure that you hold people close to the deadlines you've set (and agreed on) - checking in every so often and keeping up with the progress of the work.
Building a home extension isn't easy - it's extremely stressful and things can go wrong which is why we always recommend someone always overlooks each stage of progress. Don't leave things to contractors alone - check in often, talk to contractors and ask for regular updates to prevent anything from happening.
If you make a wrong step, it could throw your plans off course and end up costing more money than you budgeted for. Remember what you've read and take these tips away with you to ensure you new extension goes to plan!
