What do face oils do?
All about Face Oils
Face Oils have become increasingly popular over the last couple of years and lately I’ve started receiving a lot of emails asking for advice about face oils, their uses and what their benefits are.
Face Oils
Face oils are oils for the face – as silly as it sounds, that’s it! 🙂
They’re normally used as part of your skincare routine and depending on your needs they can be used daily or just 2-3 times a week.
What do Face Oils do?
Seeing as they’re becoming more and more popular, face oils are a blend of oils which are targeted at specific skin types.
Normal Skin – Oils for normal skin tend to be quite soothing and lovely, lavender and rose oil tend to be quite popular and I personally LOVE using lavender as an extra boost and glow.
Combination/Oily Skin – You need to look out for balancing oils which won’t block your pores and cause breakouts so think of lighter oils like rosemary, hazlenut and tea tree oil which all help to balance your skin.
Sensitive Skin – A lot of people with sensitive skin run away from face oils but if you use the right one it will help to balance your skin and cause less irritations. Soothing ingredients like lavender, camomile and geranium will all help to soothe your skin.
Mature Skin – Of course I’m not going to forget about mature skins, this is when you want to bring a youthful glow to your skin and give it a boost so look for rich, nourishing oils. Look out for oils which contain Almond Oil, Rose Oil and Camellia Seed all of which will moisturise and boost your skin.
Below I’ve picked my personal favourite for the skin types above.
Normal Skin – Balance Me Rose Otto Oil – This is lovely, it hydrates and replenishes skin for a healthy glow.
Combination/Oily Skin – Clarins Lotus Face Oil – My personal favourite which I use once a week just to keep my skin under control seeing as I try different products daily. It’s super-refreshing and leaves skin silky soft.
Sensitive Skin – Clarins Relax Body Treatment Oil – OK, so this is actually a body oil but you CAN use this on your face, a couple of drops on a cotton pad and lightly wipe over cleansed skin.
Mature Skin – AESOP Fabulous Face Oil – This is extremely hydrating, nourishing and perfect to use all year round especially winter too!
So, there you have some information about face oils and what they do along with my personal picks for different skin types.
I really think many people will benefit just by adding a face oil to your skincare routine even once a week, it’ll help to balance your skin and give you a lovely dewy glow all year round.
Let me know if you use a certain face oil and what your favourite is!

Thanks Layla for suggesting for the different types 😀
Thank you!!! 🙂 Glad you like!! xxx
It’s all about Kiehls! Love this, was really interesting x
Thank you – Kiehls is a well-loved brand!! 🙂 xxx
I actually use pure oil on my face! I use it every night to take off my makeup even though I have oily skin. The oils actually fight against each other so there is no longer any oil on my face.
I love your post! Very informative.
Much Love, AnnCates xx

Wow, I am not gonna lie, but i was always skeptical about using an oil on my face. Idk, the fact that oily skin causes pimples used to put me off! But looking at your post, i might just change my mind now! 😉

Interesting picks Layla. Didn’t know Clarins had a face oil too! I used to like a Marula face oil made by an indie company in Canada and a rose hip oil as.well. I do think they work really well to keep the skin supple. Ive read contradictory info about lavender oil saying that it’s actually comodogenic but haven’t tried one myself to comment!
Thank you very much for your lovely comment, I do like using different oils but overall I am impressed with Clarins, it doesn’t clog my skin and it totally calms it down when trying different products! I haven’t heard about lavender being comedogenic but more soothing and nourishing…I think it’s all about trying things and seeing what works for your skin type 🙂 xxx
very nice post! thank you!
