Blogging: The Process and Two Faced Bloggers

Hello everyone! I hope you're all well and having a lovely day so far - shame about this weather! It's dark and cloudy outside which is making me want to get on a plane and jet off to the sunshine! 🙂

This is a post which I've been meaning to write for a while.

I wanted to share my thoughts about blogging, the process and how I've personally experienced two-faced bloggers and how this is ruining the blogging industry.

The Truth About Blogging - It's NOT Easy

I really don't appreciate it when people assume that blogging is easy - it's not.

Personally, I work more than if I were working in an office - I start working in the morning, attend meetings and events during the day or go to shoots for outfit posts and then carry on writing content and editing videos in the evening.

I personally started blogging - not actually knowing that it could become a career or make any money from it but for the fact that I enjoyed writing.

You see the beautiful pictures, you see the lovely locations we travel to, you see the beauty products we get sent and you see the events we attend - but that's just it, that's the part you see

You don't see how much effort and time is needed to write one blog post, one beauty review or how long it takes to create a lovely set-up for your photos.

I work full-time on my blog and I really LOVE every part of it. Despite working till around 3 in the morning for most days - it's something that I love and I wouldn't change this for anything.

When I tell people that I'm a blogger - they laugh!

Thanks, I didn't know it was that funny…., the sad thing is that it's easy for people to assume it's easy but there's so much more in this industry - it's not all coffee-drinking and posing.

Two Faced Bloggers - My Experience

I was lucky enough to be invited to a really beautiful blog event a little while ago - it was in London and I was introduced to the whole team who held the event and product launches.

The team then kindly introduced all the bloggers to one another.

Some I knew through blogging, some I had never met before.

One blogger started chatting to me - she was so lovely and I'm sure many of you follow her and see her videos on Youtube.

We chatted throughout the evening about the new products, the location we were in - we even followed each other on social media.

I asked her a few questions about blogging and how things have changed for her.

She has been involved in blogging for much longer than me and I always enjoy hearing people's opinions.

We organised to meet up for a coffee and to feature in each others Vlog's - how lovely? It's all about helping and supporting one another.

A few days later, I was scrolling through my social media pages only to realise that the blogger in question had unfollowed me - on all social media pages.

I could never be nice to someone and then do something different.

If I like you, I will chat with you, help you, support you and be a friend.

If I don't like you, you'll know about it - there's no two ways with me, I'm not two-faced and that's what I like from other people too.

The Truth About Blogging - Bloggers Who Think They're Better

If you think the above is bad - check this out!

In my very early days of blogging, I attended another event - again, this was in London.

One of my favourite bloggers was there, she has a big following and many of you will follow her and watch her videos regularly.

I went over to speak to her and when she looked at me, she just said "No".

I smiled not really realising what she meant and she repeated herself by saying "No, you can't sit here".

The group of bloggers next to her (all known) were sat together and as I was a 'new blogger' with a small following couldn't sit (or speak) to her.

I will never forget the feeling!

I was so embarrassed and felt so, so small!

I could never dream of doing that to someone!

There have been many occasions where I've felt pushed away by other bloggers. A lot of bloggers know one another and they create their own little groups.

It's nice to see people getting on with each other but at the same time, as bloggers - we should be role models and make the effort to get to know other bloggers too.

We are all the same - no matter how big or small our following, we are all doing the same thing and trying to do the best for ourselves.

The Truth About Blogging: The Process and Two Faced Bloggers

So, how can we change the industry?

I think we should all work together and support one another, instead of making people feel small or bad about themselves.

No matter if you're a newbie to blogging or have been in the industry for a while - we are all the same.

We work hard, we love what we do and by remaining true to yourself - you'll achieve the goals you set your mind to.

Don't change yourself to fit in or be accepted by others - that's what makes you beautiful and unique.

I'd like to think that through my blog and posts, I can provide some fort of hope and motivation to others out there - no matter where they are in the world!

There's a lot that you don't see when it comes to blogging. It's not easy and there's a lot of jealousy involved too.

I've learned so much in the past few months and regardless of this - I still love blogging! 🙂

I won't allow anyone to bring me down or hold me back.

Every experience / situation happens for a reason and as long as we learn from it and move forward - it can only help us to grow and become a better, stronger person!

I'd love to know your thoughts especially if you've been faced with problems like this….

  • Fascinating insight into the world of ‘blogging’ – sounds like it’s a world that is coming of age, doing a bit of soul searching and realising that the online world is not that different to the clique-led real world. Well done for speaking out and adding to the discussion that every mature industry needs to have.

    • Thank you so much for your kind words! It’s a shame that people are like this but it’s all a part of the way things are – there’s good and bad with every industry and this is a part of it. There’s also a good side as we are a good community and it’s nice to see how people stand together! xx

    • Ah thank you so much – this is such a lovely comment! It’s such a shame but it’s nice to see all the support from fellow bloggers! 🙂 xxx

  • Hi Layla,
Sorry to hear you’ve had a few negative experiences. I think we all have but it’s worth remembering that no good ever comes from treating others badly. Keep up the great work!

  • This was such an interesting read. Thank you for sharing your blogging experiences. I think that when we do that (share our experiences), we learn so much about ourselves and each other.

When it comes to blogging, I think that the blogging community is for most part very supportive but there are some fake people around (just like everywhere). Personally, I dislike when someone pretends to be one’s friend to get a follower. I understand that most bloggers do want followers and it makes sense for bloggers to want followers and readers…. but following only to unfollow is not the way.

I must say I was shocked with the way that ‘famous’ blogger behaved. That is really unacceptable. Events like that should be places where bloggers should feel comfortable and where they can meet one another. We all have our own insights to share. In the end, we can all help one another because no matter how small or big a blog is, an honest supporter is worth gold. Genuine friendship is worth gold. Some people obviously don’t even understand what friendship is supposed to be about. Naturally, we can’t all be best friends, we can’t all get to know one another, but it is so important to be genuine. Putting others down is really unacceptable and rude. Now, I wish I knew who it was…maybe better that I don’t:).

    • Thank you so much for your lovely comment – I will be featuring more in posts which are coming soon! 🙂 It’s a shame that people are like this as it’s nice to be nice and to help one another as this is a great community to be a part of. It’s just a few people who spoil it for everyone and appear nice to their followers…. xxx

  • I’ve never met another blogger. I live in Canada and there aren’t any bloggers that I know of near me. I would feel so embarrassed if I were told no when I went over to say hi to other bloggers, how rude!

And I completely agree. It is so disheartening when people think being a blogger is easy. It isn’t by any means!

Your blog is gorgeous by the way 🙂

    • Ah thank you so much for your kind comment!! 🙂 I know, it was awful but it’s comments like this which make blogging worthwhile so thank you very much for your kind words and support! 🙂 xxx

    • Thank you very much for your kind comment – I really appreciate it and through this post have seen so much support from people so thank you very much! 🙂 xx

  • Aw I can’t believe you’ve had to deal with some of those things! It does suck to meet bloggers who aren’t genuine, especially when you feel not good enough. I’m sorry you had to deal with these things, but just know there are good bloggers out there! Thank you for this post, it was so honest and real xx

    • Ah thank you so much for your comment – it’s things like this which make me love what I do! It’s about supporting one another – thank you for your lovely comment and support! 🙂 xxx

  • Hi Layla, Just read your blog about blogging and your horrible experiences from two faced people. It is a shame people are like that but in a way you should take it as a compliment. Although unpleasant at the time, they probably saw something in you that is threatening, not in an aggressive way but in a business one. You are young and pretty with a style of blogging that is clearly gaining you popularity and recognition. I expect they were driven by jealousy and fear and rather than behaving in an adult, professional manner they acted rude and child like.
No industry likes ignorant people like that within them but unfortunately they are in everywhere.
All it takes is one person to act differently, to lead the way, to role model to make a change. Someone that won’t tolerant the poor behaviours of others and to hold them to account when they act appallingly and damage the reputation of blogging. I think that person could be you…………x

    • Thank you so much for your lovely comment!!! It really is a shame to see how people behave and interact – it’s meant to be a comment of supporting and helping one another! The amount of work and time that goes into every blog post is something a lot of people don’t see but the rewards are lovely – from working with brands to having a supporting group comment on every post you share!

Your comment made me smile so thank you very much for that! 🙂 xxxx

  • Oh my god that’s disgusting. Actually feel so strongly about this why can’t people be supportive of one another. Bet they’re gutted now you’re doing really well for yourself. I attend my first event in London soon and now I feel a little worried about it but I’m a brave girl so I’ll hold my head up high at my small new blog! Lots of love and best of luck with your blog, you’re doing so well and don’t need people like that pulling you down anyway.

    • I know – it really is a shame to see how people can change or become influenced like this! I always say that it’s better to be kind and nice to everyone as we are all the same! Some people are more fortunate than others but it’s what your personality is like that matters the most! For me, if someone needs advice or help or even sees me at an event – I’ll be there to help and say hello!

Thank you so much for your kind words, I really do appreciate it and it’s always so lovely to see that the blogging community is filled with lovely people! 🙂 xxx

  • Wow I genuinely can’t believe your second experience! Especially since you were probably following her videos and supporting her! As for your first experience, I’m the same, I would just tell people like it is, instead of playing games. Good on you for not letting people like that bring you down, you should carry on doing what you love! 🙂 xx

    • Thank you so much, I know – I felt so small!!! I will continue doing what I do and helping people along the way – that’s the best way to be and thank you so much for your kind words 🙂 xxx

  • Love your positivity – remaining true to ourselves is absolutely the way to go 🙂 I’m sorry to hear about the times you’ve come across less-than-friendly bloggers (particularly the second ‘no’ scenario!), but I suppose just because someone is a blogger doesn’t mean they’re nice – as I suppose we find out along the way! Love your honesty Layla, and I hope you come across a ton of really, really lovely bloggers now to make up for less friendly ones you’ve come across 🙂

    • Thank you so much for your kind words about this – it’s a shame that we have to go through things like this and it’s sad to see how people change but we all learn and grow from situations!

We should all be there to support one another and that’s the key! 🙂 xxx

  • I’m sorry to hear you’ve been through difficult times with the blogging community! I hope I won’t have to face that any time soon. I totally agree with you on the “remaining true to yourself” part, mostly because whatever we do we’ll always receive unhelpful criticism so we’d better stay ourselves. x

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment – it’s a shame that things like this happen and I’ll be writing lots more on this which is all coming soon! 🙂 xx

  • This was so interesting to read Layla, and I’m sorry you’ve experienced such bitchiness – it never ceases to amaze me how horrible some people can be at times! So far I’ve yet to have anything really negative happen to me personally, but it saddens me that nearly everyone I meet through blogging seems to have a similar story to tell. Why can’t people just be nice?! As for people thinking it’s easy, I’ve definitely encountered that! Just shows how little they understand it! x

    • Awww thank you so much for your kind words – I know, it really is a shame and I thought it would be quite nice to write a post surrounding this as many people don’t actually know what happens and assume everything is great – far from it but I wouldn’t change the way things happen….. I have lots more coming soon on this 🙂 xxx

    • Awww thank you so much for your kind words – it’s nice to write about things like this and to show people that blogging isn’t what it’s made out to be! Yes, there are some great rewards and perks but there’s also the downside as there is with everything!!! Thank you so much for your kind words and look forward to seeing more from you too! 🙂 xxx

  • A very interesting post, hun, lots of words of wisdom here! I agree with you, blogging is not easy and it does take so much time! It looks easy when you just focus on the finished product, but the process is long! Thanks for sharing. 🙂 xoxo

    • Thank you so much – I’m really glad that you like the post and it’s nice to see how people agree with the fact it’s not as easy as it seems! 🙂 xxx

  • Wow I’m so sorry to hear you had those negative experiences, I can’t believe that person wouldn’t let you even sit with them! That’s just ridiculous. If these people are big bloggers and Youtube stars I’d really like to know who they are because I’d like to unfollow them…

    • I know, it really is such a shame to see and I was shocked at the time and even now I remember how small I felt when I got told no! I will mention names but not just yet…. that will be featured in another post! 🙂 xxx

    • I know – it’s such a shame as people don’t see that side to blogging but it’s nice to be able to share these experiences through the blog and in the end, it’s only made me a better person! I could never imagine doing that to someone and I’m more than happy to help if someone needs advice of motivation along the way! 🙂 xxx

  • I must say I really admire your dedication to blogging, you seem to always have some sort of project or post that you’re working on. Honestly, your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed here in the blogging community. And your experience with some bloggers sounds so awful. I can’t stand people who think they’re better than others. And don’t worry Layla, at least I’ll never unfollow you on any social media 😉

    • Ah thank you so much!! I’m really glad that you like this post and I cannot thank you enough for all your support, it really means a lot to me!
I just believe that determination, hard work and positivity will get you anywhere! Don’t let people bring you down, remain true to yourself and follow your dreams! 🙂 xxx

  • It is a shame you had such bad experience. I have never met with other bloggers (and to be honest, I can hardly call myself one, as I take it as a hobby and write something when I feel like as well as I don’t want to bankrupt myself by buying and reviewing all the latest releases, and let’s be honest it is difficult to give everything a proper try in time before everybody writes about it, just to get a few more followers). I guess it is a bit like all those internet relationships where everybody can pretend to be nice and lovely until you really meet them. I noticed that having followers is a bit like uphill struggle as many people will follow only to unfollow you the moment you follow them in return but I told myself there are more serious issues in life than to think about that negativity and people who really want to follow, will continue to follow and show their support. I like your blog and your reviews especially because there are many products I don’t read about on all the other blogs. Continue what you are doing because people who really like you, will do that without putting you down.

    • Thank you so much – I’m really happy that you read the post and commented too, it is such a shame that this is happening and not stopping, for me blogging is meant to be a community in which people help and support one another.
I enjoy reviewing and looking at different products, attending launches but I also like seeing the authenticity from bloggers and their unique voice too which I feel is sadly starting to fade….

Determination and positivity will get you everywhere!! 🙂 xxx

    • Thank you so much sweetie, I know – it’s such a shame and I can’t imagine doing that to someone! If someone needs help, motivation or guidance I’ll be there to help! If someone speaks to me at an event, I’ll be there to say hello and would never dream of pushing someone away or making them feel small…. xxx
