You may love your home just as it is, filled with memories it holds for you and / or your family but there does come a time when you have to make the necessary improvement, expansion or even move to a bigger home.
When you first move into your home, you usually have space – much needed space however as time goes on, so do the possessions and things can feel a little cramped, shall we say. So, here are some signs that show it’ s time to upsize or move to a new home…
- A growing family
This is probably one of the main reasons for needing to move or improve / expand your home. Over the years, families grow and sometimes, even family members / parents can stay with you for long periods of time or even live within the household.
Of course, you need to drastically make changes to adapt and suit things to your lifestyle and if you find yourself in this situation you can look at a variety of ways to improve your home which could mean, building an extension / additional rooms or moving to a larger property – depending on your budget and financial situation.
- Feeling cramped up at home
For those of you who have started a family, it feels like only yesterday when you had toddlers running around in your home. Now, you have teenagers who want their own space – without sharing their rooms and to have enough room for them to study and enjoy their hobbies, without bothering the rest of the household.
Older properties tend to have basements so instead of moving, you could look at improving / transforming the space. For newer properties, basements aren’t the norm but lofts are – again, you could look at transforming the space prior to making the move, all depending on your budget.
- A cluttered home
As time goes on, you acquire more items for your home from furniture, artwork, storage and kitchen appliances etc which means you can quickly run out of space.
Before you know it, you have a mountain of items and clutter without having enough storage. Normally, this happens in the kitchen and living room where you spend most of your time. In the kitchen for example, you can use an island bench with storage and high cabinets to give you more than enough room.
You can do this on your own or hire the services of professional kitchen makeovers. Other storage options include drawers under the stairs, linen closets, and walk-in robes in the bedrooms.
- No room for a furry friend
If you have a desire for furry friend or if you need backyard space then it may be time to look at larger properties.
Perhaps you already own a pet and want another addition – you could look at turning different spaces which are unusable into extra living space and to make more space for your pets. After all, pets provide us with love and all they want is our company.
Along with that, take a look around your home and see if you can transform any spaces or turn them into entertainment areas. Get creative and browse different posts and websites online – there’s so much inspiration out there!
Especially now, when more of us are spending time at home, it’s worth looking round and seeing what can be changed / transformed and if you feel that it’s time to move, it could be one of the best times to start getting things into gear.
Upsizing your home comes with so many advantages. You should seize the opportunity to enjoy your home and its space when the opportunity presents itself.
