Colourful Meringue Recipe

This is something completely different to the usual fashion and beauty posts but I thought it would be quite fun to share some simple recipes with you all 🙂

A few days ago I decided to make these Colourful Meringues you can see pictured above and even though they were my first attempt I was quite happy – they’re not perfect but practice makes perfect and I’ll be doing them again!

I only had Red and Purple Colouring to use but I quite like how some have faded and gone to pastel tones whilst others a lot more vibrant. I kept some of them white too and created different styles – some swirly and some flat like macaroons.

What you’ll need

Baking Bowl

Electric Hand Mixer

Piping Bag & Nozzles – I used Tala as the piping bag is lined with a clear film inside.

Ingredients

3 Egg Whites

450g White Caster Sugar

Method

Separate egg whites and yolk. (You can use the yolk for omelettes so don’t throw it away!)

Place egg whites into a large baking bowl.

Using an electronic hand mixer whisk the egg whites on a medium setting for a minute until it just starts turning white.

Start adding your sugar slowly and turn your mixer onto a high setting until you’ve added all your sugar.

When you see your mixture has become white, glossy and stiff it’s done!

If you don’t want to add dye to your meringue you can just put the mixture into your piping bag and get going.

I used two different colours so I added the dye to the metal nozzles and just changed them around for the different colours.

You can also add lines of dye within your piping bag but this can get a little messy and if you don’t want all the fuss you can just add one colour to your mixture and turn it all into a cute colour.

Pipe out the meringue onto a baking tray lined with baking paper (stops them from sticking) and place in the oven at 180 degrees for around 15 -20 minutes or until they start to harden, you want them to be gooey on the inside and crunchy on the outside.

You want to be quick with the piping as room temperature can soften the mixture and cause it to turn runny so have at least 2 trays lined and ready for the oven.

That’s it!

You can either place these in little sweet jars and give them as gifts or place them on a big plate for everyone to share! 🙂

Let me know what you think!

Layla xx
